They knew I wasn't "slow" (as she said) and they sought a second opinion. They were then informed I was of normal intelligence, but that I had simply never learned to read. A lot of parents are quick to take the opinion of educators (even when they're not looking at the child in question through eyes of delight). I was lucky, I caught up and now am in my fourth year of university studying psychology, and earning straight A's. I’m so glad my parents didn’t take the advice of my 2nd grade teacher.
